Hi, I need a place to store one possibly two vintage caravans. I will be working on the caravans approximately 2 days a week, doing them up. If you have some land or a corner of a farm yard where I could pay rent for putting my caravans please contact me. Ideally Lewes and the surrounding area.

Accommodation and food in exchange for help
Hi. Would you like to come and spend a few weeks on the beautiful untouched little island of Kerrera off the coast of Oban? I am looking for a person to come and help me ‘til the end of Oct. I run a little tea garden and bunkhouse and have a big veggie garden. I need help in the garden and the kitchen. I am offering food and accommodation in exchange for approx four hours help a day. It’s very basic and rustic, no cars, no tv, just lots of beautiful landscape and peace. Accommodation is a mongolian yurt with wood burner. Please get in touch if you are interested for more information.

Solidarity Appeal for online action to save Rochdale Sustainability Team
For those who have asked for more information here is the link for todays Rochdale Online article about the 2010 Food Awards for which Rochdale’e own Earth Cafe have been nominated along with six other excellent hubs for environmental sustainability
http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/45902/rochdale-community-group-shortlisted-for-award
In addition Earth Cafe & Environmental Sustainability Action Forum’s, [ROCHDALE], online petition to try and save Rochdale Borough Sustainability Team from extinction has now reached halfway point ... we need more votes please.
We believe the proposed decimation of RMBC’s Sustainable Development Team - an area where Rochdale has a distinct advantage for once over surrounding towns - is in direct contradiction to RMBC’s existing commitments to The Nottingham Declaration, 10:10 and RMBC’s own Environmental Strategy Document [January 2010].
Indeed we also believe this proposal clearly runs contrary to RMBC’s, Lib Dem Council Leaders own Party statement on Climate Change since the Liberal Democrats own website stated last week (Tuesday 27th July 2010);
“Chris Huhne, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, has set out ambitious plans to tackle climate change and give the UK the secure, low carbon energy it needs. In his first Annual Energy Statement to the House of Commons, Chris laid out “a clear strategy for creating the 21st century energy system that this country urgently needs for an affordable, secure, low-carbon future.”
This included a series of measures to improve energy efficiency and boost renewable’s , protect vulnerable consumers, as well as pledging to push for ambitious action on climate change at home and abroad.
Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Committee for Energy and Climate Change, Andrew George said, “Climate change is the greatest threat we face as a society and a planet. I am proud that Liberal Democrats in Government are taking this seriously and proposing radical steps to tackle it.” “The Coalition has set out the most ambitious programme to create a secure, low carbon economy of any British Government in history.”
Local environmentalists and community activists have been able to make tangible progress over the last six months with the assistance of this local Sustainability Team for workshops, demonstrations and meetings.
We have inside information on the cost these proposals will cost local taxpayers and rest assured we will be making them public soon.
Allegedly these cuts have been made because a relatively new Team will cost RMBC less in redundancy payments than it will for more established Teams ... this is NOT about ‘efficiency’ it is about money ... and whilst we support wholeheartedly those other Council workers facing redundancy, it is for others to support those particular workers in their struggle for jobs, we are trying to take what steps we can to promote as best we can Rochdale’s long term Environmental Agenda.
We feel that this hard won progress will be in REAL jeopardy should this decimation of the Sustainability Team be agreed in RMBC’s “efficiency” cuts this October.
If we get the required 200 votes we will be able to make formal representations at Full Council to oppose this proposal. Rochdale Council has a Lib Dem Leader, however, it is currently a Council of no overall control so people of all political persuasions can support this campaign without conflict of interest.
Our campaign is motivated by concern for Rochdale’s long term Environmental Agenda rather than one of short term party political affiliation. Earth Cafe and Environmental Sustainability Action Forum are both not for profit social enterprises based on the workers cooperative model. We have members of all political persuasions in our membership,as well as members of no party, our role is to campaign on local environmental issues, attempting to: ”speak truth to those in power” regardless of their party political affiliation.
This is issue not just about a group of “tree huggers” getting irate about dolphins and butterflies, important though these things undoubtably are, this is about £500 per day fines from Central Government, thats £185,500 per year plus, if RMBC fail to meet it’s CO2 targets after the very people who have been tasked to deliver on this have been made redundant by RMBC ... and that’s just the CO2 targets ... there’s other fines on top of that folks.
We will be publishing these statistics soon so that people can reach their own conclusions about this proposal.
WE the Council Tax payers will be landed with this crippling bill at a time most of us are trying to keep our heads above water.
THIS is why we are asking you to please take a moment to sign our online petition to Rochdale Council at:
http://democracy.rochdale.gov.uk/mgePetitionListDisplay.aspx
or
http://tinyurl.com/3xorjmr
Thank you for supporting this online action!

Free Accomodation in exchange for help....(Lewes, East Sussex)
I’ve posted before, and had a few replies, but the timing was all wrong. ..
Im a 32 year old disabled woman living in Lewes (11 miles from Brighton) ... I’m on the edge of a town, overlooking meadows, surrounded by the downs ... It’s tranquil and peaceful here.
I need help with gardening, starting my own veg/ herb beds, turning my home more eco friendly. If anyone’s good at carpentry or mechanics, I have room to build a small shed/ yurt in my garden and I’m converting a small camper van ... You can either camp, stay on a sofabed or have my bedroom to yourself.
It initially is for a few weeks. But if we get on well, then you could stay longer ...
I’d prefer a single person, but wouldn’t mind if it’s two people if it’s the case your travelling around together.

Win A Home In the Countryside
We are making a major new Channel 4 series The Village. Individuals, couples and families who would love the opportunity to start a new life in the English countryside have the chance to win a three bedroom cottage in a small idyllic village in West Yorkshire.
The series will follow the participants as they move to the village for a week. During the week’s filming they will get involved in village life, meeting the residents and demonstrating to them why they would be a valued member their community. The local residents will then decide on who wins the home and becomes the newest resident of the village.
Participants must be over 18 and initially available to film for one to possibly three weeks during September or October. Anyone interested in applying must also realistically be able to relocate and start a new life in the village should they be lucky enough to win the competition.
The village is commuting distance from Leeds.
The competition is open to anyone over the age of 18.

Germany - Network Report
Germany : Kommuja - Kommune Treffen 2010
On the internet side: http://www.kommuja.de/joomla/index.php/aktivitaeten/6-kommunetreffen/14-bericht-kommunetreffen-2010 of the Kommuja network’s homepage, www.kommuja.de , Natali from KoWa (Kommune Waltershausen) reports:
The 22nd meeting of the german network of political kommunes, Kommuja, took place in the grounds and buildings of the KoWa commune in Waltershausen, Thuringia, between 3rd and 6th of June, 2010.
Finally summer! In the sunny meadows and open spaces around the KoWa the 14 hosts from the commune and 40 members of other german communes enjoyed workshops dealing with many aspects of communal life. How is it possible to reconcile or combine self-employment with a communal economy? How do you find a balance between “work” and really free time? How do the organisational structures have to adapt to fit the quantative growth in communities? These were the themes of a number of talking circles which presented their results every evening at the large plenary meeting.
The stored up solar energy was released by many into wild dancing at the party on Friday. Who ever had not had enough of heat and talk could enjoy the Saturday evening chatting by a camp fire through the mild night.
What did we take home with us? Lots of positive stimulus, new contacts, happy memories.
The planning for Los Gehts 2011 and for the Kommune InfoTour has started. It is clear which groups will put out the next issues of the “Kommuja”, our internal bulletin. A commune book is in preparation. There are ideas for a joint political action by the network. The first, small fine step in this direction is the network’s common solidarity statement against the nuclear waste dump at Gorleben which was decided upon at this commune meeting.
And, oh yeah, we got a message from this year’s BUKO (Bundeskoordination Internationalismus – the Federal Coordination for Internationalism), saying they had decided that “On the 22nd of April, 2011, capitalism will be abolished”. Before that really happens we still have a lot to clear up and do.

Living on your own land
You may or may not have heard of the government new website Your Freedom, which was launched this month.
I currenlty have a proposal on there for the right for individuals to live on their own land, in a simple non-invasive and sustainable way, supporting nature and the environment, whilst developing true rural communities.
The suggestion is very high up on the site now and has a real chance of being considered but more votes and especially comments will help.
Please look at the suggestion, and support it by voting and/or commenting if you feel so inclined.
Comments will make it go further up the list.
Thanks very much!

Any vacancies for Architectural/Permacultural
Hi,
I am an architectural designer/graduate with a increasingly strong interest and specialism in intentional communities/co-ops/permaculture/etc.
I spent a couple of months last year at Dancing Rabbit Eco Village designing and building a house and would like to do more living and working with communities.
A lot of I.C.s seem mainly interested in a: new full time members, b: day/weekend visitors, and not much in between.
Is anyone looking for people interested in design/construction/permaculture interested people for a couple of months?
Ideally I would like to live-work-exchange.
I am potentially looking for somewhere to settle down for longer, but would like to engage in a community through a project or two first.
please get in touch if you are looking for anyone or know someone who is. my email is: lexcroft (at) googlemail (dot) com

Report of Austrian Community Network Meeting
“From experiment to social innovation”
The Austrotopia Community Forum 2010
This year’s meeting of the Austrian communities network, Austrotopia, took place between Thursday 10th June and Sunday 13th June at the Friedrichshof in Burgenland, eastern Austria. It was well attended, with about 100 people being present over the weekend.
A combination of factors made this meeting especially interesting and lead to it being a success. Firstly, the lure of the Friedrichshof itself, which has a nearly 40 year history of community, first as a commune and then, since 1990, as a co-operative. Secondly, the invitation to Manitonquat and Ellika to come and hold talking circles for nearly the whole period of the community forum. Thirdly, the selection of a number of community building methods which were presented by their proponents and then practiced in an afternoon of workshops. Fourthly, the attendance of many active members of the varied Austrian community scene who could present themselves and their projects to the large number of participants who are searching for intentional community. Lastly, glorious summer weather.

Please HELP to write an Eco-village business plan?
I am asking for assistance in giving birth to an eco-village in Southern Afrika. The aim is to co-create an eco-village that will be a safe, nurturing, progressive, sacred space for women, children, their visitors and supporters. To live, heal, work, play and grow in peace, love and harmony with each other and Mother Nature.
This is a vision I’ve had, ever since I can remember myself. (I am 40) To live in unity with the elements in an intentional and conscious raising community that performs locally with a global perspective for the highest good of humanity. Can you please help or could you kindly point me in the right direction? I have a list of potential land sites, which were originally successful settlements in ancient times..
The aim is not to depend on sponsors, but rather to work in partnerships to raise funds and to sustain the eco-village, with a variety of income generating initiatives, e.g.
1. Global Learning Resource, Research and Monitoring Centre, to provide local & global courses in: Afrikan Indigenous knowledge systems; Conservation; Eco village design; Permaculture ...
2. Ubuntu Centred School for children aged between 4-21. To empower tomorrows leaders and keepers, through exploration of sustainability through creative self expression and self knowledge. Long term the aim is to establish a boarding school which will attract children in the diaspora (not exclusively), whose parents wish for their children to learn values and systems of Ubuntu Bethu in a natural safe and nurturing environment. As well as an exchange programes and summer camps.
3. Publishing house and media centre, to print, reproduce and disseminate conscious raising literature and specifically appropriate information for the local and “global” community eg Ubuntu Environmental newspaper, Natural Parent Magazine, learning resources, cards ...
4 Gallery to showcase and sell traditional and contemporary arts and crafts. Which will include studios and workshops for artists to unleash their creative juices and to host regional and international artist residencies at least once or twice a year.
5. Chemical and glue free paper making without additives and colourings. Materials will be collected from replenish able and plentiful sources, eg elephant and other wild animals dung, grasses, reeds, leaves, flowers. From the sheet paper that is made artists will create sophisticated unique products for local and global fair trade market. The ecological handmade paper industry offers a considerable potential to meet the increasing demand for paper products in an environmentally friendly way which will empower the poorest of the poor, mainly women and children.
6. Grow, harvest, prepare, process and provide wholesome organic, bio-dynamic fruit, veg and nuts. From the harvest of wild and garden foods we aim to prepare conscious foods, drinks and snacks to feed and water the village, local markets and the global community too.
7. Using permaculture design we will grow healing herbs for cosmetic, culinary and medicinal purposes ...
8. Vermiculture-Organic compost- Chemical free fertilizer and pesticides for the community and local and regional market
9. Spirit Centred Journeys (Eco-Tourism) to Southern Afrika`s Sacred sites to educate and tune into Mother Earths healing energies. Lead by Traditional doctors.
10. Afrikan Holistic Retreat to pamper and relax the body, mind and spirit the natural way.
As an Earth Keeper, natural parent, earth wombman (woman), scholar, activist and light worker I have been blessed with a wealth of experience, know-how and vision. Vision to serve, uplift and empower women, children and their communities, for the highest and common good of humanity. An Afrikan proverb reminds us that “if you educate a wombman you educate a nation.”
I hope I have given you an insight to my intentions and a little tiny bit about myself. If there is anything that you need clarification on, please do get in touch? I am currently based in Essex in the UK. The plan is to return to Afrika by October 2010, hopefully much sooner. To start the ball rolling, mainly the paper work, environmental assessment and soil analysis.
Thank you for your time and wisdom. Keep on keeping on and stay blessed.

la FEVE - an Exploration of Communal Living, in France
Dear all,
I’ve recently returned from a 2-month visit to the Communaute de l’Arche at St Antoine-l’Abbaye, near Grenoble, France. I had a great time and learnt a lot there. It’s a non-violent community, founded by Lanza del Vasto, based on the principles of Ghandi, and which is ecumenical in outlook.
Anyway, the main thing I wanted to tell you about is that they are hosting and running a project called La FEVE (Formation et Expérimentation au Vivre-Ensemble). I’ve been asked to tell people about it, and I thought Diggers and Dreamers would be a good place to spread the word! It takes place over two years (the first being spent living full-time at the community itself), and it begins this October.
It is open to all young people from 22 to 35 years old, and applications are being accepted now.
There is a cost (€1,000 for the first year and €800 for the second), but the community is keen that monetary issues do not represent an obstacle to people coming, so it’s worth contacting them if you would find it hard to pay.
I guess language issues are a personal thing, but I found that, being immersed amongst French-speakers 24/7, my French improved quickly, so I wouldn’t consider a lack of French to be too much of a problem. If you don’t speak any French at all, you might find things difficult at first, though - it’s a steep learning curve. But you’d be pretty much fluent after a year!
Anyway, here’s the website, where you can find more details:
www.feve-nv.com
The information booklet (PDF) can be downloaded here: http://www.feve-nv.com/DOSSIERS/FEVE-DOSSIER.pdf
Good luck to any who apply, and I hope you have a great time!
And whilst I’m posting, I should add that they also regularly take ”stagieres”, which translates as ”interns”, but in reality isn’t nearly so official and clinical as it sounds! It’s a bit like volunteering, but there’s more of an emphasis on learning new skills and how the community works, as well as the spiritual side of things. This can be from a few days, right up to a year. If you do a ”stage”, your work, as a service to the community, pays for your lodgings and (very tasty, vegetarian) food. This is what I did, and it was a very valuable experience. Here’s the general website for the community: http://www.arche-de-st-antoine.com/anglais/frame2.htm.
Peace,

I’m a simple creature looking for a room to rent in a household with likeminded folk. I’d be happy living in a caravan on a farm, as i have a motorbike for transport. I don’t need modern conveniences, central heating etc, just a good place with peace, quiet and a bed. I’ll be studying with SHIFT BRISTOL in september but need somewhere asap. I am willing to clean/garden upkeep/and cook for cheaper rent/no rent. Please contact me if this sounds like something you have available.

Advice Needed
I am trying to do develop a large house for a spiritual/ alternative community with a Buddhist/ Sufi/ Shamanic/ Humanistic philosophy, in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The property I have identified will house 10 people. The property has fire escapes and smoke alarms throughout. Can anyone tell me if 10 people occupy the property, will it be subject to multiple occupation rules? I have been warned that I should not approach the local authority as they could make life difficult. If anyone can assist in this area or point me in the right direction I will be very grateful. Thanks.

Potential in Kent
Unfinished project in two acres semi-rural, consider selling or sharing. Possible eco-commune. Any ethical people with commitment and ideas. Lovers of English pastoral music maybe.
