Bed needed for 30 weeks in Glasgow

I am living in a co-operative in Sheffield but have been accepted into a Physical Theatre course in Glasgow from 28th Oct for 30 weeks and would like to stay in a good place with good people that share common ground i.e. environmental and ethical principles. If any one could advise me of anywhere in that area including squats and sites I would very much appreciate it!

Soon to be ex nurse looking for fulfilling way of life

Hello
I’ve just been scanning through this web site. I’ve been searching for a change for more than a year now (I will be taking my NHS pension at 55yrs. old in 14 months)
Only struck me this morning that I don’t have to do it alone!! I’ve been looking at sustainable housing and have in mind a Yurt or an Ecohab, I do think there is a preoccupation with bricks and mortar. Having said that old beautiful buildings are inspiring. I have a house to sell that would provide some investment in a community, and I dream of providing income from growing my bees into a profitable enterprise, and finding my joy in painting and creating another beautiful garden for the bees and the community, and maybe the public. I’m looking for somewhere in the south west due to family connections in somerset and exeter. Possibly in Wales since I am from south Wales, but also the west of Scotland since I currently live in Edinburgh and Scotland is the most beautiful, spiritually rewarding country in the kingdom. I feel very excited about the light that switched on in my brain this morning. So if your community is looking for new members then please get in touch.
Regards

Young skater/ hippy dude looking for land to rent (Notts, Yorks, Lincs)

The person:
Mike, 26. Recently separated, I have 2 little boys who don’t live with me but would be coming to stay at weekends so I need to stay rooted to the general area prescribed above!
I’m a welder/fabricator by trade but currently work within the prison system & oh what a bore it is! I’m sick of the repetitive lifestyle & seek something more! I have always been a ‘hippy type’ though present myself as a skater dude! (well bmx to be specific!). I write poetry & stories in my spare time and use my welding skills to create sculptures and interesting things! I have been interested in living a self sufficient-ish lifestyle for many years and now suddenly I’m able to do so! I’m a very easy going guy, very peaceful, open minded & hard-working.

The plan:
Well I’m looking for a plot of land for rent, could be a paddock, a bit of your large garden, part of a farm? As long as I am able to turn a good proportion of it over to food crops & keeping animals (chickens, pigs etc). Accommodation wise I’m hoping to purchase an old bus to convert into a ‘flat’ with a nice wooden veranda on the front and maybe some hanging baskets! I would be looking at solar power and wind turbines to get my energy & as for water, well I’m not 100% sure right now, perhaps you have some ideas for that? It’s a long shot but I guess the ideal piece of land would have a stream running through it that I could use to setup a water purification unit?

So there you have it, a small-holding if you want to call it that? That’s the plan anyway. The rental would need to be as cheap as poss because my aim is to find another less stressful job with part-time hours so I can dedicate a decent amount of time to looking after my holding. I have a few other ideas to generate income but nothing set in concrete just yet. I do drive a car (well an old VW camper!) so there would need to be a reasonable access from the road or perhaps access could be created? And I would love to be able to setup a meditation/writing centre for friends with common interests to come and share with me.

Please feel free to contact me.

Options Wanted

Hi, I’m a 35 year old about to move out of the city. I lived in a self-sufficient smallholding commune near Wales as a child and it seemed idyllic. I’ve been in a career maze in London for years but am out the other end with enough freelance work to call it ”my own business” producing documents and doing virtual admin over the internet, so not tied by any location.

So I’m heading back to nature, currently looking at renting somewhere alone. I’m posting on here just in case there’s somewhere I’d fit into well within a community type set up. I’ve lived in various sorts from full communes as a child to more like shared houses with individual units let. I really like having people about and a sense of being able to work on things with others, projects, repairs, gardening etc, for a larger and more enjoyable environment overall.

I’m interested in all sorts, different characters, animals, (thinking of possibly fostering some), trying different things, music, science, spirituality, reading, drawing, learning things, growing things.
I work hard and have green fingers.

I can afford rent through my business while also doing some community work, but might not fit in as a community member typically would maybe as I need to be off at the computer and being a virtual assistant a lot, full-time hours, although the hours I do are flexible. I’d love to be able to be part of a community of some sort as part of where I’m living, I’m flexible, friendly and laid back when I’m about. So just in case anyone’s got a place just right for me or any other thoughts please drop me a line. :-)

New to the other side of the world.

Hi, I am an 18 year old vegetarian, Australian female moving to the UK in about April 2011 and am looking for a commune or share place to call home for a short while, either in or around liverpool or london. I believe in all things creative - art, music, writing, reading, learning, meditating, have an open mind and want to meet and share with like-minded people. I am keen to cook, clean, work in the garden or whatever! as I will have limited money, or until I find a job.
Would love to hear from anyone.
Peace.

Can anyone help?

Hi, we are a couple who fell in love with Cornwall (near St Ives) and I feel that I have finally found my place of happiness. So, we’re selling/ giving all our things, and have made a decision to go to Cornwall. We would love to find a community who has the same beliefs as us, who don’t look at us in a strange way. We are hard working, my partner is a good worker and I like to cook, sew and learn to knit. We are Portuguese and would love to share our traditions. We would love to see our boys run free and learn to respect nature like we do. We have little money but are honest and hard working people. Thank you!

Celtic Roots

I am a mature female who is suffocating in my present location. Having spent most of my life in Wales and Scotland, I made the mistake of leaving for pastures new, only to regret it afterwards.

I am vegetarian but do not have any milk products either. A non smoker, no kids, or pets (but love both children and animals). My lifestyle is preferably based in in community setting. I am happy to share and help out with whatever I can. I can assist with care needs, or household tasks, gardening, childcare, etc. I have office skills and am computer literate. There is more but I will be brief.

Seeking an arrangement/accommodation in Wales (North preferred but will go elswhere) or Scotland, this from the Borders to the Highlands. The more rural the better.

My thinking tends to be “alternative” and anarchist politically. Am very eco conscious and try to live in life in keeping with this. I am able to contribute financially to any arrangement.

Creative Caribbean woman seeks community

Hello there,

I enjoy DIY and have a qualification in bricklaying, painting and decorating, plumbing and carpentry. I also enjoy gardening and like all pets, especially cats and dogs.
My parents are from a small island in the Caribbean and I enjoy mixing with different people and cultures. In January of this year I started a weekly community knitting club - you can see more info on the website www.communityknittingclub.webs.com.
I am vegetarian and I am looking at living in accommodation with people who are similar to myself: easy-going, wanting to be part of a supportive, creative and fun community.
Looking forward to hearing from you! :o)

Family of six looking for a sense of belonging

Hi, my name’s Rachel and my husband, Rob and I have dreamt of leaving our old, manic lives behind and wanting better for our children for a few years. We have four children aged 14, 13, 6 and 3 who are very well spoken, polite, intelligent and often spirited! We feel we’re on an uphill struggle to try and teach them what life is all about when all around us we see destruction, vandalism, lack of respect, intolerance of others and not being prepared to work for what they want. We have no capital but are prepared to sell most of our belongings to get to where we feel we belong. I’ve been a full-time mum for 14 years but Rob works and has become disillusioned by working and never seeming to get anywhere nor have any satisfaction from life. What we really want more than anything is happiness in a peaceful environment and a sense of accomplishment that we don’t feel we’re getting now.
We’re not afraid of hard work (I love mucking in and getting grubby) and are fast learners.
I guess we’ll know what we’re looking for when we find it,but a strong sense of community is a must and we’re open to ideas. We’re more than happy to pay our way and work hard. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

A peaceful life

Hi, I’m looking for a fairly isolated place to just reconnect with natural origins, west/ north west Scotland would be ideal but any where isolated from large populations will be fine. If anyone has a slot for me that would be great, I don’t require payment as I feel the monetary system just constrains. Food water and shelter are all I need and in return I will work land, maintain buildings, help with animals or contribute to project work (anything really), I’m good with my hands and I’m full of ideas (mostly rubbish but gotta be a bright one in there somewhere) and have been really taken with aquaponics systems & permaculture lately, I’m sociable and have a keen interest in music, have worked within building and engineering industries so I’m flexible and keen to learn, low impact building, dry stone walling etc also interests me. I’m 38, fit and keen to work, I just don’t want to work for “the man” anymore. So if you have some land that I could care for I would really appreciate the opportunity of space where I can have peace. Many thanks in advance.

Need a patch of earth

Hiya, I’m looking for some land for my family myself my other half and my children, we don’t mind if it’s on its own or in a community. We are looking for a fresh start and we don’t really have much money but we are desperate to get out of this hole we are in and live off the land. All we want is a couple of acres to grow on and raise a few animals on and build an bender or save for a yurt. If there is anyone out there that could help us with this we’d be eternally grateful.

Communally minded place in mid Cornwall saught

Hello, I will be moving to Cornwall very soon for at least a year but probably much longer. I will be taking a teaching job in St Austell. It’s a bit of a leap of faith to move there and get some experience in doing what I love. I would ideally like to share my domestic life in a communal way with as much self sufficiency is possible when I’m working quite a lot! Despite the work, I want to buy/ grow food together and cook and eat together occasionally. The communal way is defi nitely for me. I’m just not in a position yet to work less to give more (though my hours are strangely flexible - just ask!). I’m 25 with a lot of love and growing skills to give the right household.

Student in Aberdeen, age 19

Hi!
I’m going into my second year at Aberdeen Uni. I have the money to rent and/or flatshare but this does not appeal to me at all. I am looking for somewhere that I can be a part of a community of people with similar, earth-friendly ideas and values.
My interests are predominantly music (piano and cello-player), art (poetry and visual art), society and the human mind (study sociology and psychology) and lastly, healthy eating (cook all my own food; eat as naturally and as close to nature as is possible).
Love to cook and bake. Love animals as well.
Not 100% vegan, as I do eat eggs and sometimes I will eat fish or chicken, but I realise I should not be doing this and am getting protein elsewhere. Completely avoid milk and milk produce, and eat following the Macrobiotic guidelines.
Would love to live with some similar-minded (don’t have to be exact - I’m all for diversity!!) people, in or near Aberdeen; however if you are elsewhere in Scotland and I sound like you’d want to know more, please do contact me!

I should add: very willing to work for my board :)

Really hope to hear back!!

Couple with 11 month baby

Hi, I’m looking for somewhere to live, renting? Where we can be mostly self sustainable, and eco-friendly, with like minded people.
We keep ourselves to ourselves and are a happy young couple of 21 and 25, with an 11 month old son.
I don’t know if the place I dream of exists, but I really hope it does, and I hope someone gets in touch.
We live in South Yorkshire at the moment, my partner does not work (laid of at the start of the recession) and I am a stay at home mother. We live in the suburbs in a typical 3 bed semi, closed in and no room to breath. I do hope someone can help.
Thank you in advance!

Communal Living Southern UK

I am a 35 year old female presently based in Oxfordshire (though open to moving, especially near to the sea) and work for the Youth Service as well as in a school. I am in the position to either part buy something (up to £50,000 down payment) or rent. I don’t really know all the options so am open to possibilities. I am a creative person, have a visual art background and also write and record music so would ideally be looking to get somewhere where I could set up my gear, perhaps somewhere with outbuildings. Beyond this, I don’t know. I am open to self-reliant, sustainable forms of living but would not describe myself as an extreme ‘eco-warrior’, just a laid-back, down-to-earth person wanting to live somewhere a bit nicer and more enjoyable than an urban box-room....Feel free to get in touch if you think you would be interested either in doing the same or have a vacancy that might be suitable. Many thanks for reading, Charlotte :-)

My skills range from Woodman/ Chainsaw operator/ Handyman/ Metalworker/ Mechanic, Electrics (mainly 12 volt). Plus I can turn my hands to most things. I’m an all round practical guy. I have many of my own tools ie Chainsaw plus kit, Spanners, Welder, Vice, etc.

I’ve done a permaculture course many years ago and found it fascinating. I have done WWOOFing in the UK and abroad, I’ve done many different jobs, I’ve designed built and planted up my own garden, and then eaten the produce, the list goes on and on ...

I am looking for a place in Mid Wales/Shropshire borders to either to park up my hand built motor home to which I designed and built myself or to live in a cottage/ room/ yurt/ tipi / or cave. But only in a rural area the quieter the better.

I believe that we all should respect our Earth and we all should look after her has much as we possibly can, to not to is to bring our own downfall.

I have spent many years living cheaply and quietly mainly moving around but to me it is very wearing and I need to find a place of tranquility/ rest/ enjoyment and also to be with like-minded souls which I can feel at home with.I am also a private person and like my own space.I was living on a farm but now I am back on the road, but due to my accident I realy need a permenant place.

I would rather speak face to face as I find it very impersonal on the computer but at least it is a way of introducing myself. Feel free to ask any questions or offer any advice.

So can you please help me in find home at your lovely place?

Contact me via D&D or on 07977968170

Blessings Spike

Argh!

Hi, we are a family of four and like many on this page are looking for a low impact off grid lifestyle in a caravan/mobile home. We are having no luck at all finding a friendly landowner commune etc that is willing to rent a forgotten corner of their land and are becoming pretty downhearted. Has anyone any ideas? Isn’t there anywhere in the UK to pitch up camp and live quietly?

Lost Soul - Can You Help?

Hi everyone,

My name’s Derek and I am a 45 year old male.

I have been lost for some time now and I have been re-assessing what I really need from life. I used to be a director of various companies, both here in the UK and abroad but after years of being disillusioned with the whole capitalist lifestyle just woke up one morning and decided to quit. I have struggled since but I am determined to seek the right path.

For the last 10 years or so I have dreamed of being able to survive by living as close to the land and nature as possible and I am really keen to join with others in a community in order to continue developing and growing these thoughts. I have just separated from my wife [no hang-ups] and I think that the final piece of the jigsaw has been laid.

I am very interested in Buddhism, Wicca, Nature, Environmental Issues, Sustainable Living, Renewable Energy and all other things in life that are both peaceful and promote harmonious living with others.

[Some Experience Offered:
25 years - Company director [IT/Web sector] / Web design / Business development / Marketing etc. I must have other worthwhile uses but I can’t think what may be valuable to you like I have had my own allotment for 2 years, practical manual work etc.

I am looking to belong to a community with like-minded people that is preferably still in some sort of formation stages and has the potential to allow me input some valuable skills so, If you have such a space free and would like to meet up, please contact me.

I probably have more questions than answers at the moment but would love to hear from you. I am very open minded and will consider anything.. well almost :)

Heart yearning for home

Hello

My name’s Susie. I’m 41 and interested in Buddhism; meditation; nature; peace and harmony. I have recently been re-assessing what I need in life and realise that I would like to belong to a community. I’m not particularly interested in material possessions; it’s being able to develop as a better human being that’s more my bag...

Am really keen to join a community in order to continue developing and growing. Looking to rent a room around Hackney/Stoke Newington area of London with like-minded people.

If you have such a space free and would like to meet up, please let me know.

Happy couple with baby on the way

Hello every 1. Me and my girlfriend are in our mid 20s and expecting a baby. I was brought up in communes in Scotland and couldn’t have wished for a better up bringing and wish to give the same to my child. We are based in Hastings and would like to stay within about a 5 hour drive of this area. But other than that we are very flexible. Ideally we would like to set up our own healthy food and therapy centre as our income source I am currently working as a quantum healer and nutritionalist. Between us we run lots of different classes and workshops and we wish to live a low impact lifestyle while inspiring others to take the same leap of faith out of the rat race. We are interested in all types of living arrangements from buying land with someone else to just renting a bit of land.

Single Mum

I am a single mum who tried communal living for a month a few years ago and loved it ... sick of struggling alone (financially) in a 2 bed house, I’d love to move in with other parents and share rent/bills. I’m interested in living in the north, Northumberland or Cumbria area. My son is 9 and he would love some instant brothers and sisters. :-) We both love music and the outdoors.

Freedom please!

We are a young family of three who have realised that our future happiness will only be secured if we stay true to ourselves. For us that means honouring our commitment to live a low impact life style focusing on working with nature, self growth, music, healing, laughter and bringing up our child to know a different world than we are in now. We have healing, music, art and permaculture background ... so we do lack some skills ... but not knowledge. We also have a useful amount of savings. Finding the right dwelling is so important to us but we accept trial and error. We would be so grateful for an opportunity to get stuck in and do some hard work in return for experience.

Central London

We are a family of five looking for a place in a community in Central London. Both of us work. Currently we live in Yorkshire after moving out of London three years ago due to the difficulty in finding large enough accomodation. We now desperately want to return this summer before the next school year begins.

Help Needed

Hi there I’m a 43 year old singale gay male, I am currently working and living in York.
However, I am fed up with the whole rat race thing and am looking for a slower paced life to concentrate on my hobby of writing and photography and to develop them into an income. I am looking for a place that can help me out, ideally a community of adults. My only downside is I have no money to invest or buy into a co-op which makes things really difficult. Mind you I am still relatively fit and able to work. I like the idea of a remote setting and not averse to the idea of Europe if possible.
Anyway that’s it hope someone can help.
Quite like the idea of living in a Yurt.
Cheers
